Viscosupplementation (Hyaluronic Acid Joint Lubricant Injection)

arthromac_en

Joints are like machines and they work best when they are well lubricated. In a healthy joint, a thick substance called synovial fluid provides lubrication in the joint to allow bones to glide against each other and act as a shock absorber. In people with osteoarthritis, a critical substance in synovial fluid known as hyaluronic acid breaks down. Loss of hyaluronic acid appears to contribute pain and stiffness in the joint and it may hinder their daily activities and active lifestyle.

This injection is used to treat common joint pains such as osteoarthritis of the knees, hips and small joints like fingers and toes.

Hyaluronic acid is given as a shot into your joints. It may take 1-3 months for the medication to take effect in order for the pain to go away.
